Sharon Encourages Group

One of the problems most marathon runners have is running too fast in the early part of the marathon.  As pace group leader for Clif Shot it is Sharon's job to see it that those in her group run each mile at the same pace, and a pace that will give the group a finish of 5 hours 30 minutes.  Sharon knows to the second, the time to arrive at each mile marker. For Grandma's Sharon is using the Jeff Galloway of running with walk breaks, and for Grandma's Sharon used 1 minute walk breaks each half mile.  During the walk breaks, Sharon would turn around and encourage those in her group.  This picture was taken during the early miles of the marathon, where Sharon is telling the group they are running nearly 2 minutes ahead of schedule and must slow down.   By Mile 15, the group was over 3 minutes ahead of schedule.   Fortunately, this gave the group some cushion to spend on Lemon Drop Hill at Mile 21.

Many of the miles were dedicated to certain people some of whom were deceased.   Finally Sharon said "No more dead people".   At this point someone suggested dedicating a mile to the yet-to-be born and a mile was dedicated to pregnant Nell Oliver and her soon to be daughter.
