Before Start

This was taken about 3 minutes prior to the start.  The forecast temperature had been for the upper 30's to 40's.  It was warmer than that before the 7:30 am start.  It was in the mid 40's.   Daylight saving started earlier this day.  And all through the expo and in the goody bags were notice to change your clock.   As I was running at about Mile 10 and much faster runner comes running past me.   I later learned at the post-marathon party that he had forgotten to change is clock, and got to the start late.

First Walk Break

This picture was taken during my first walk break.  The runners are running down hill on Dickson Street near the University of Arkansas campus.  The Hogeye is an out-n-back marathon and the runners will run up this street at the end.  Not so much fun.

Mile 5

For the Hogeye event there is a Marathon, a Half Marathon, and Marathon Relays.  The full marathon is a 13.1 miles out-n-back.  The half is a 6.55 miles out-n-back.  The picture shows the lead half-marathon runner on his way back.  The relay had both 2 runner and 4 runner relay teams competing.

At the Finish

The guy in the overalls is on the race committee.  He first ran an early leg of his team's relay then, he changed in to his 'hill billy' uniform and cruised the route in his Jeep stopping at water stations to assure that runners got water, Gatorade, or beer.  He cheered me on at several locations and alerted the aid stations near the end that I was coming.  He was at finish when I crossed the finish line.  So while the regular volunteer was offering me cracker with peanut butter and a can of cold orange drink, this guy offered me a cool (not cold) Michelob Ultra.  A few yards from the finish was the statue of the Razorback Hogeye.  Here I am with finishers medal, survivor's t-shirt over my right arm, and a  Michelob in hand.

Age Group Award

This woman is on the race committee, and is president of the local tri-athlete club.  Her job was to present the age group award.  Here I am getting my award.
