Weekend Rental Car

For this weekend I flew into New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and rented this car a Chevrolet Cobalt.  It is about 5 pm on a rainy Friday afternoon when I picked up this car and drove to Newark DE. Mapquest had indicated 2 hour 15 minute drive.  But because of Friday afternoon get away traffic from NYC,  it was after 8 pm when I got to Newark, DE.

Frank Bartocci and I at the Start

Frank is a 50 States Club member from Minnesota and is retired from IBM.  He was one of the early completers of the 50 States and is now on his 3rd time around.  I talked with Frank at the Yakima River Canyon Marathon pasta dinner.  When he heard I was going to run the New Jersey Marathon at the end of April he suggested coming one day early and running the Triple Crown Trail Marathon in Delaware.  I thought about it.  It seemed like a fun thing to do and I registered.

Winston Davis and I before the Start

I first met Winston at the 50 States Marathon Club reunion meeting at the Fox Cities Marathon in the fall of 2007.  He and I both had worked as engineers in the nuclear department of electric utility companies.  He and about ten other runners from the Atlanta area had come north to run the Triple Crown Trail Marathon on Saturday and the New Jersey Marathon on Sunday.

This picture was taken just before the start of the marathon.  The runner with bib number 112 is Nathan Nudelman a member of the Navy Marathon Team.  My nephew, Bill Reed, is now a member of the Navy Marathon team.
