The Easy Part of Trail Running
![]() |
Winston Davis took this picture. He had offered to take a picture of me early in the Fox Cities Marathon. Then I said "No, Later", however then I did not keep up him. After all he is 14 years younger. This time I said "sure". Good thing I only saw him one more time when I was out bound at Mile 19 and he was inbound soon after Mile 20.
White Clay Creek Crossing #1
|
This is at Mile 3 and is the first time for crossing White Clay Creek. The deepest part is near the near creek bank.
Mile 10 Ten K Runners
|
The second crossing of White Clay Creek is at Mile 10. Shortly their after the trail goes upward toward the finish of the half marathon and the start of the second lop of the marathon. It is about 11 am and the outbound 10-K runners are coming toward me.
Mile 15 Outbound Trail Marker
|
In sailing there is the term "Red-Right-Return" for guide in sailing at night back into a harbor. This trail was not marked my sailors, but medical folks. Red pie plate is outbound and represents oxygenated blood. This is just beyond Mile 15. At this point I am running with Ray McCaslin from North Carolina and we are thinking we missed a turn. Seeing the marker we know we are on course.
White Clay Creek Crossing #3
|
This is at Mile 3 on teh first loop and Mile 16 on the second loop.
In Bound Trail Marker
|
The blue trail marker indicates the inbound trail. The color blue represents oxygen depleted blood.
A Handy Bridge
|
Not all streams were crossed by fording. This small stream had a bridge.
A Forest Tower
|
I could not figure why this tower is in the middle of forest. It is not tall enough for fire watch.
