Jackie Britton's First Hand Report

Hi
All,
Last
night I paced at one of Nike’s events in East LA (EL Mercadito). Jack
Ware
led the walkers and I was his sweeper. After we finished going twice
around
a track that enclosed a commentary, we proceeded to walk back to the
restaurant.
As we got closer, we saw an ambulance in front of the
restaurant
and Aileen Wong (Legger) and a group of runner walking in our
direction.
We
asked what happened. She said Al (Vargas?) collapsed (they thought it
was
a seizure) and Susan wants to move everything outside. We walked around
back
and then I decided to go in and the stairs lead me to the front
entrance
where the ambulance was (this was my very first time at that
particular
location). I walked over to Bill Lockton and asked how is he;
Bill
said ‘he’s not doing anything on his own’. I walked up to the back of
the
ambulance door and paramedics were working on Al and then the door
closed.
Katy Pinto (Site Manager for that location) getting in the front
seat
of the ambulance. She was going to White Memorial with Al.
We
went back inside and things continued; however the atmosphere was
different
and rightfully so. I asked Jay what happen. This is story as I
got
from Jay (staff for the event), he said Al was returning shoes at the
shoe
kiosk and clutch his heart and collapsed. They called 911. Al stopped
breathing
and medics try to get him to comeback. We sound found out Al
died.
Was it a seizure or heart attack I don’t know but lets remind to pray
for
Al’s family. By the way, Al Vargas was a Legger.
Life
is so short and we all have a cycle, let’s make the best of it.
Treasure
the moments.
Peace,
Jackie
