Michele's Service Report

Subject: [ten30pace] Al's Services

I was fortunate that my schedule allowed me to be in Fountain Valley last night and this morning.

It was the least I could do to go and pay my personal respects and represent the club.

When talking with Al's sisters last night, they asked how I knew Al, I said  "I ran with Al" but soon corrected myself "well, actually, I ran BEHIND Al"  which amused them!

As Jackie mentioned, there were pictures of Al on the posters the family had on display - yes, running with Jeannie K, posing in the ten30 group photo, on the marathon-route training run coordinated by Kendall, proudly wearing his marathon medal while with Charles Sayles at the Omni and.. celebrating it all at the Legger party...

Al's family members were actively involved in today's service and I admire their courage and composure.  Jennifer's stories of her father were warm and loving, and she was still congratulating her LA Leggers dad for having completed his first marathon in March.

Thanks to other Leggers who made it last night and today - there was great comfort in everyone's gestures of compassion and sympathy. As well as the e-mails and messages we've all shared.

I know I have to stop grieving, Al would probably disapprove of us being so sad... as Jeannie K reminded us, he always had a smile.  May we all be smiling again soon in fond remembrance... and INSPIRATION.

Charles, thanks for adding the special tribute page to Al to your Web site.   A true gesture of how much of a family the Leggers organization really is.

With appreciation - Michele B
